Part of Advance Design, the Steel Connection module ensures the configuration of a seamless solution, with the ability to manage and calculate bolted and welded joints, and with fully detailed design reports that include the calculation formulas and reference to the design code.
The Steel Connections available in Advance Design can run specific checks according to Eurocode 3 rules for several types of connections. Users can select the desired connection from the Type panel in the ribbon. The elements available in the Joint elements panel can differ depending on the selected connection.
The Steel Connections available in Advance Design make it possible to quickly design a variety of connections in Advance Design projects and also has the ability to run independently as a standalone application. Steel Connection module will help you to work more productively when modeling, covering all the steps needed to define a steel joint and customize its properties including main members of connection, additional joint elements, connectors, and materials.
Base plate joint of Advance Design - Steel Connection module is created by welding a steel plate to the bottom end of the column that is connected to the foundations through anchors. The Base Plate connection can also have a different configuration with sloped or vertical stiffeners.
The joint can include several stiffeners, shim plate or shear lug. All parameters of the connections can be modified - stiffeners, anchors, bolts, shear lug, foundation, welds, and plates.
The base plate size can be smaller than the column size, which allows users to preserve a pinned connection for the columns with big sections (it is used, for example, for column sections bigger than 300 mm – the accepted limit for a pinned connection; the sloped stiffeners are transferring the vertical efforts from the column’s flanges to the reduced base plate).
Moment End Plate joint of Advance Design - Steel Connection module is used to connect a beam to a column flange. Additional elements are available to customize this connection (i.e. haunches, plates, stiffeners, welds). In order to work more productively when modeling a Moment End Plate joint, it is important to cover all the steps needed to define the joint and customize its properties including main members of connection, additional joint elements, connectors, and materials.
Apex Haunch joint of Advance Design - Steel Connection is used for roof beams. It consists of two beams spliced with bolted end plates, on which haunches or plates can be attached at the top/and at the bottom. The haunches are created from profile or plates. In order to work more productively when modeling an Apex Haunch joint, it is important to cover all the steps needed to define the joint and customize its properties including main members of connection, additional joint elements, connectors, and materials.
Clip Angle connections of Advance Design - Steel Connection module are used for connecting a floor beam to one or two secondary beams, or a column to one or two secondary beams. The attached secondary beams can be sloped to the main. The angles can be bolted or welded to the main beam. The main and secondary elements from the clip angle connection can be defined as I or U sections. The third element can be enabled whenever the clip angle connection is applied on the web of the main element.
Gusset connection of Advance Design - Steel Connection module connects bracing members using gusset plates. The number of bracing members that can be enabled can vary from one to three. For the calculation, Advance Design - Steel Connection module implements Eurocode 3 international design standards, for all the connection components verification and parts of the connected elements.
Splice connection of Advance Design - Steel Connection module is often used to assure continuity for structural members (beams or columns) along their length. The splice plates can be bolted or welded to the main members. On web connection, U shaped profiles can be used instead of splice plates.
Gable Wall End Plate connection of Advance Design - Steel Connection module is used to connect a continuous beam to the top of the column. Similar to the Moment End Plate joint, additional elements are available to customize this connection (i.e. haunches, plates, stiffeners, welds).
HSS Bracing connection of Advance Design - Steel Connection module connects bracing members with hollow sections, circular or square. The number of bracing members can vary from one to three.
Tubular Base Plate joint of Advance Design - Steel Connection module is a specific base plate connection for round or rectangular hollow sections. The available Base Plate joint from Advance Design - Steel Connection manages only the “I” section for the column. Therefore, this new category of base plate joint was needed for round, rectangular, or square hollow sections.
