Advance Design success story: A/B Jetty Project – Pomerleau

The main goal of this mandate was to design a falsework steel structure seating on temporary piles. The structure supported a pile cap of 4m dimension and the formwork underwater. The structure had to resist significant gravity loads (self-weight, formwork & concrete) as well as important water pressures (buoyancy & lateral). The structural components had to be designed to ease installation. Therefore, it was crucial to analyze all the load transmission using a structural model.

Project

The main goal of this mandate was to design a falsework steel structure seating on temporary piles. The structure supported a pile cap of 4m dimension and the formwork underwater. The structure had to resist significant gravity loads (self-weight, formwork & concrete) as well as important water pressures (buoyancy & lateral). The structural components had to be designed to ease installation. Therefore, it was crucial to analyze all the load transmission using a structural model.

User benefits:

The main benefits obtained during the design process with Graitec Advance Design software are as follows:

  • With Graitec Advance Design software, it was easy to integrate all the load cases on an area load. It was especially useful to simulate buoyancy by adding in an upward ratio weight load which calculated buoyancy for each structural member underwater.
  • Since Graitec Advance Design 3D visualization is CAD-based, it’s an amazing time saving benefit to be able to present the model directly to the site team for planning, rather than having to prepare a set of detailed CAD drawings.
  • The bill of quantity report and IFC export was particularly useful to accelerate the pricing phase.
