Creating a User Defined Stair Tread in Advance Steel

Advance Steel’s stair macro is extremely powerful and also has a wide range of options to choose from which may not be immediately obvious. A couple of questions frequently asked are:

“What is the purpose of tread types 22, 23 and 24? When I use Tread Type 24 why does the ‘Tread Dimension 1’ property list ‘User defined treads’?”

There are 21 predefined tread types in the Advance Steel stair macro with treads 22, 23 and 24 being User Defined treads. i.e. you can create your own tread profile.

Creating a User Defined Stair Tread in Advance Steel

Of course we can create folded treads using the predefined treads but we are not able to refine the tread to show additional folds like the edge fold in the example above. For this we need to create a ‘special’ User Defined tread.

If you are familiar with creating user defined sections, you will recognise that creating a tread is exactly the same process and involves no more than half a dozen steps. If you are not familiar with user defined sections, do not panic! – the following Screencast explains the process.
