Graitec Steel is a steel detailing and fabrication solution that runs natively inside Autodesk Advance Steel and Autodesk Inventor, giving detailers one platform for modelling, connections, stairs, railings and fabrication output. This release brings a wave of new capability to Advance Steel users: architectural railing systems built from supplier components, a new cage type for the North American market, individual support control on cage ladders, and the Graitec AI Assistant working directly inside the model.
Below is a walk through what has landed, and what it changes about the day-to-day.
Railings: architectural systems, supplier components
Special Post Railing
The headline railing addition, available only in Advance Steel, is the Special Post Railing system. It exists to serve a segment of the railing market that automated tools have historically ignored: architectural railings where the post itself is a manufactured component rather than a rolled section.
You define the post in the Special Part Manager and it becomes available inside the new railing type. Rail positioning is then handled automatically using preset offsets, so the rails land consistently against the supplier’s geometry.
What matters here is that nothing is traded away for the flexibility. Post positioning stays in your control: left, right, side offset, spacing by segment, independent start and end offsets. Handrails, ending types, caps, infill and grab rails all behave as they do in the standard railing. The same flexibility that is available in the standard railing carries into the special post type, making the possibilities effectively endless.
A new Post Cross Section tab has also been added, showing the position of the post section as defined in the Special Part Manager, so alignment can be verified visually rather than inferred.
Take the example of a T-shaped configuration which is actually composed of three separate special parts, each holding a dense set of data such as: producer type, X, Y and Z offsets, data fields for weight and model role, post parameters covering alignment, base type, base shape and side offset, and connector parameters for bolt sizing.
The connection is available in both the Standard Railing macro and the new Special Post Railing.
Several pre-built configurations ship with the release. Users can add producers of their own for added customization.
PIP Standard D cage type
The D-shaped cage, sometimes described as semicircular, has been added to the available cage types. It comes from the PIP standard used in the North American market, so detailers working to that standard get compliant results automatically from the macro. This addresses a direct customer request, and gives the market first-class support out of the box.
The new shape inherits everything the existing cage types offer. Straight or inclined ladders, exits left, right or forward, hoop enablement and partition control, and rung and step-off platform settings all carry across.
Individual support extension
This one is for users who have asked for the ability to give each support a different length. Every cage ladder support now can be extended independently, on the pair and to the exact dimension the site calls for, all held live inside the macro. That means a ladder ties cleanly into an inclined or irregular substructure straight from the dialog, and the whole arrangement stays fully parametric, with the macro intact.
Stairs
Stair landing nose and toe angle control
Landing nose and toe angles can now be set to match the tread angle directly, with a new combo option for folded plate tread types. Treads and landings line up in one move, giving you consistent geometry across the stair and clean, fabrication-ready detail without any downstream correction.

The Graitec Assistant
The Graitec AI Assistant, henceforth Graitec Assistant, is available in Advance Steel with this release. It is not a help chatbot bolted onto the ribbon. It reads the model, acts on it, and can be extended with skills.
The framework is Ask, Find, Create.

Note that the Graitec Assistant requires a named user license. Availability today is Advance Steel only.
Under the hood
Migration to .NET 10: Graitec STEEL has been updated to stay fully compatible with .Net 10, for Advanced Steel and Inventor modules.
Graitec Updater: A centralised update manager now built into Graitec Steel. One tool handles updates across all installed Graitec products, running silently in the background, detecting and downloading in the background with clear notification when updates are ready. Users keep full control: install now, postpone, skip a version, or disable updates per product.
Compatibility: Graitec Steel 2027 runs on Autodesk Advance Steel 2026 and 2027, and Autodesk Inventor 2026 and 2027. Installation is a single setup that adapts to the platforms present on the machine, and a single trial license activates the features available for that platform.
Where to go from here
Graitec Steel 2027 is available now for Advance Steel 2026 and 2027. Existing PowerPack users move across on a single installer, and the features you rely on come with you.
