Challenge

In 2021, PCI Las Vegas was selected to work on the interior framing of the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas, using building information modeling (BIM) to aid in project estimation and coordination. The Sphere, unveiled in 2023, is the world’s largest spherical building and a unique entertainment venue. Due to its complex and organic design, PCI relied on BIM to translate ideas into actionable plans and to manage the project’s many moving parts efficiently.

Project Goals

In order to coordinate with the entities responsible for the primary structure and secondary steel, PCI BIM Senior Specialist Alain Michalak and his team of BIM/VDC specialists wanted to make the process of generating documentation and manufacturing output less difficult, tedious, painstaking, and time consuming.

PCI was also contracted for scaffolding, insulation, metal panels, and several other scopes. With a unique and complex project like Sphere and the long material lead times the team encountered, they needed to accelerate modeling and improve efficiency so that accurate information could be shared for collaboration and planning.
